On The Pursuit of Success

The pursuit of success can be defined in many ways, but for me, the pursuit of success is about focusing on setting up an environment in which you are most likely to achieve success, rather than simply focusing on trying one’s best. These two things are very different. Take Olympic athletes as an example. If someone wants to win a gold medal, then they must create an environment in which that is possible. That means becoming a member of an Olympic team, having a coach who can provide feedback, attendance to training sessions and, of course, putting forth effort when needed. Running, rowing, swimming or jumping as hard as you can will never be solely sufficient. They are, of course, pivotal, but your environment will do a great deal of the work for you. Success is rarely attributed to one thing. Malcom Gladwell’s book Outliers describes this very notion in great detail. His postures that success is often a result of a number of factors, leading someone to their achievement or posit

Dealing with 'people never contact me first' or 'i am always ignored in conversation' or 'nobody ever asks me about me'

People never contact me first: There is loads of reasons why people don’t contact you first. Quite often, its because people are busy and you just don’t enter their mind. Counter to that is that you’re not busy enough, and so you look for sources of entertainment. Other reasons include spending time with their partner..i often read on here about how ‘and then I got a GF and I stopped talking to my friends as much’. You’re friends tend to fall to the wayside when you get a new partner, its just the way it is. It could also be that most people are prone to doing nothing rather than making an effort to do something (the status quo bias). In an increasingly busy lifestyle, their mode of thinking might be ‘I have had a long, and stressful day. What is more attractive to me; staying at home, and the certainty of a quiet, stress free evening, or go out, in a bad mood, and possibly have a crap night?’. Another reason is that asking someone to do hang out with you leaves you with

What has helped me study better for longer

I want to enumerate some things I've come to learn through my own experiences. By far, the best time to study is in the morning. This is when you  should  be most awake. You  should  be very refreshed and ready to work in the morning. The reason "should" is italicized is because Western culture seems to think that sleep deprivation is normal and okay. It's not. Waking up with an alarm clock is NOT healthy. Your body wakes up naturally when it is done sleeping. 1: Eliminate the alarm clock. If you have to get up early, go to bed early. Establish a consistent routine. Wake up when you are ready. If you can't wake up early, yet your schedule permits you to wake up late, then wake up late without shame. Sleep as long as necessary. Now, this next point may be more of a personal thing, but I start to feel sluggish the moment I eat breakfast. No matter what I eat, even if it is just vegetables, I will feel tired after. It must be the process of digestion

I was reminded today of the guy who made one of the biggest impacts on my life.

Once upon a time I was a 21 year old in my first real job, with my first apartment, struggling to figure out how to budget enough to have food. I was hungry and having a really hard time. Dave sat next to me at work and often noticed that I wouldn't eat a meal at all at work. Nine hours, no food. He asked me once if I was hungry, and over the growling of my stomach I just said no. He quickly changed the subject to some joke cracking to keep me from being embarrassed. A few days before Christmas I came into work, I was particularly down on my luck, using the little money I had for meager Christmas presents for my family I was only eating one small meal a day. On my computer sat a card. I opened the card and a gift card to Wal-Mart slipped out and inside it said. "When you can, do it for someone else. Merry Christmas, Dave." I figured that gift card was $5 or $10 dollars. I was so excited. I could get some bread and lunch meat instead of peanut butter sandwiche

Tips For Writers

These are things I see often and usually by bad writers. Not to say good writers won’t occasionally use some of these, but on average, the good writers don’t. You may already know these, I hope that you do. Most of these have to do with being economical and delivering tighter descriptions. I’m only doing this to maybe spare myself from coming across these so frequently. You should know these things. They may seem insignificant, but when a reader only reads, these jump out and could elicit a premature judgment of your writing. In no particular order: 1) On your face. If someone smiles, smirks, or has a look, we know it’s on their face. Where else would a smile be? With a smile on his face. Just “With a smile.” 2) He nods his head. Or He shakes his head ‘no’. Nods means ‘yes’, shakes means ‘no’. If he nods, we know it’s with his head, if he shakes his head, we know it means no. 3) The best he can. Or The best they can. They clean the house the best they can. He talks her dow

Self-publishing

Self-publishing is the future. Traditional publishers are going to morph into pure marketing firms and play a smaller role as their percentage of the royalties drops. Fairly soon, there won't  be  traditionally published authors, not in the same sense of the phrase. Authors will hire  them , not the other way around. And why should any author, especially skilled ones, choose 17.5% royalties over 70% royalties?  There were quite a few people in that other thread judging all self-published work as bad, but there's virtually no reason for skilled authors to go the traditional route, either. "Sifting through the crap to find gems" is not your problem. It is Amazon's problem, and the problem of each distributor. They need to improve their site layouts and update their search algorithms. Have you noticed that even Amazon is terrible for browsing books? That will change. The system is already substantially self-regulating, as readers vote with their money... and

Importance To Setting Goals

Setting goals and achieving them is the key in gaining self confidence. People in the industry know how to present themselves before the audience because they set goals for themselves and measure the targets achieved. Minimize your weaknesses and exploit your strengths which will help you realize your capabilities and accordingly help you tackle the threats. . Generally the industries demand for workers who are highly motivated and are self confident because only then they can motivate others and create a positive environment in the industry. But people who lack self confidence land in nothing because they can hardly face the audience and present themselves in front of others. They fumble and are overly apologetic which is a minus point for getting a project. Rather individuals who have good vocabulary and speaking skills and have their heads held high while presenting themselves are the ones who achieve success in life. Motivation is the driving factor in every industry but mostly i

Mantra Of Success

The only mantra to succeed in life staying calm and focused towards our goal. People who are self confident and motivated are always appraised for their work. For a business, Self confidence is extremely important to prove oneself as a good employee. But most of them face failure in this regard because they cannot really face a huge audience. The owner of the business should look forward to motivate his employees by providing incentives and rewards so that there is a level of competition among them and also there exists a harmonious environment in the company.  People with a positive attitude always have their heads held high and are very clear in what they do and what they say. They are always confident about their work and this nature also inspires others to gain success in life. Employees who are self motivated are always in talk. For a business to run smoothly, it is important that the employees working in it should have leadership qualities and presentation skills. They should b

Know More About Self Confidence And Motivation

The fast growing business world demands people who are confident and self motivated and have the ability of decision making that involves risks and management simultaneously. Now to fulfill these demands you need to be self confident. Self confident people often inspire confidence in others as well. Seeing you setting goals and achieving them, they will also start working to give you competition and this is what the owner wants.  An environment of competence and positive attitude is a pre requisite to a good business. Doing what you believe is right and following your instincts even if you get criticized for something is the attitude of a true professional. Going an extra mile to take up more risks when you know you can perform them perfectly is the self confidence that we are talking about. People who lack confidence cannot face the audience, they fear of losing and so they don’t get out of their comfort zones to take up problems.  But one should always remember that failures are

Learning How To Stop Judging Others Will Help You

As humans, it is our nature to judge other people. Mostly because judgement is almost done subconsciously without any direct attention to it. Yeah, we know what we are thinking about someone, but we disregard it like it has no effect on ourselves. On the contrary, it has a massive effect on us. Have you ever wondered the reason for your self consciousness? Why you care about what people think of you? Why you care about shit that truly does not matter? Fear. Pure fear that is directly derived from ego. You can be shyest m*therfucker  on this earth and have an ego bigger than holy hell. How? Because ego is a sense of self directly derived from the comparison of others to you. Ego is not confidence, ego is an unhealthy illusion that is counterproductive as f *ck  . This   is an example of confidence You yourself, are a badass, and you need  n o one  else to validate that for you. You don't need anyone to be a benchmark for your success in life. F*ck  that. No one know

1. Clean up.  Clean your bedroom, house, car, dust your shelves, organize your closet and your drawers. Clean up/shave that nasty facial hair (or legs, for you ladies) and get a decent haircut. You deserve this. It will make you feel better. 2. Exercise.  Look, I don’t care what your fitness level is. If all you can do is walk around the block for a half hour- do it. It’s important to be out in the real world right now. For those of you who belong to a gym... GO! You’re paying a monthly fee- utilize this. Create a regular workout schedule(4 or 5 days a week). 3. Eat better.  Exercising is completely pointless if you return from your run and plump onto the couch with a bag of potato chips. It’s important that you avoid refined sugars, carbs, and saturated fats. Stick to the basics; vegetables, fruits, lean meats, nuts, and lots and lots of water. If you capitalize on the opportunity to be a healthier eater, you will see an abundance of healthy overflow such as: weight loss, sel

Realization and a Test

I had a realization on Wednesday morning that we have a Self and we have bodies. Our Self is permanent, it is who we are and what we do. Our bodies are transient, they come and go. I thought about a lot of things that motivate me, and they all seemed to be making this one point; there was one quote from Bruce Lee that seems to exemplify it; it's the second one in that section there. The point is, you must never fear to lose a body to save your Self. Nearly right after I had this epiphany, it was forcibly brought to my attention that I had invested too much and prematurely into another person. I had to let this body die and it was painful and it's still painful and it will continue to be painful, to that body. But to my Self, it is of no importance. My Self continues and does as it always has, continuing my good habits and losing my bad ones. I saw a picture this weekend; it was of a Rhino running on a treadmill, he had a picture of a unicorn hung over it. The title was &qu

Don't Let Anyone Kill Your Dream

I started reading fantasy novels from a young age. I remember when I was 12 or 13, I was reading a popular game-book series called "The Adventures of Lone Wolf" and I got the urge to write what would now be called fanfic on the story. I even wrote the publisher to ask if I could have permission to write novels based on the character of Lone Wolf. I was rejected because the original author, Joe Dever, was already working on the novels. I began working on my own stuff at about 14 or 15. I came up with a story and struggled to write it. At the time, I was devouring fantasy from Terry Brooks and Raymond E. Feist and horror from Stephen King. I decided then that I wanted to be a writer for a living. I told my family and got blank looks. "You can't make money as a writer," they said. "You need to find a real job." I heard that enough that I gave up my dream and settled for the life they told me I needed to lead. College and work and all that. I

Goal Setting: 3 Steps to Set Your Life Goals

I want to get into a relationship. I want to lose 50 lbs. I want to be successful entrepreneur. For the 1 st  goal A Wisher is:  someone who sits home all day (while asking 'why am I never in a relationship?) and only dreams about being with a cute girl. Blames the world/god/nature for 'bad genetics', perhaps says they're too ugly for someone ( despite evidence to the contrary where even unattractive people can get into relationships with people 'out of their league') A Doer is:  someone who doesn't separate people into leagues. See's a cute girl and knows she's attractive, doesn't deny it, but isn't intimidated (may say to themselves "I'm suppose to be attracted to her, she's hot"). When he goes out to say, a nightclub, and  this is important , does NOT make it a goal to "get with a girl", his goal at this point is to have fun. The saying in the 1902 book  As a man thinketh  described this well:  "

Self confidence is everything
