Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

This post is a summary of the first part of the book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie . The book contains 4 parts, so I’m going to post one each day. Part One: Fundamental Techniques in Handling People   1. Don’t criticize, condemn, or complain   “If You Want to Gather Honey, Don’t Kick Over the Beehive.” Humans are creatures of emotion, not logic. Even notorious criminals try to justify their actions and feel victimized when they confess. For most people, criticizing or complaining will only make matters worse. Studies have proven that humans, just like animals, will learn faster with a good positive attitude than with bad behavior. Basic human nature rejects criticism even when criticism is constructive. “Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes them strive to justify themselves. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person's precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouse...

Buliding Self-esteem and Anxiety-busing

The principles below should impart the building blocks for solid, lasting confidence and self-esteem whilst also helping with anxiety reduction. I hope somebody, somewhere finds this helpful: Eradicate the notion that there is a ‘quick-route’ to confidence or a “life-hack” that will grant you it – there is not. If you haven’t earned it you don’t deserve it. Confidence is the unshakable belief in what you are, who you are and where you are heading to. It is worth working for. Confidence sits in the mind, but it is fostered within us by our actions and attitude. You cannot be confident without pushing your own boundaries and stepping out into the world to confront new challenges. I hate the notion that Confidence is “Courage + Experience” as well because it’s totally bogus – you can have self-confidence in your mental framework, patience and resilience. You don’t have to be on the summit before you can be confident in climbing the mountain …So dumb! Deep, slow, stea...

Why Self-Esteem Is Important

I recently read The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem and I thought it would be helpful to share some of the ideas here. Basically, self-esteem is defined by 2 factors: Confidence in our ability to think, confidence in our ability to cope with the basic challenges of life. Confidence in our right to be successful and happy, the feeling of being worthy, deserving, entitled to assert our need and wants, achieve our values, and enjoy the fruits of our efforts. If you believe that the problems in your life can’t change no matter what you do and that you are not in control of your own decisions, then you have low self-esteem. If you feel like you don’t deserve the credit people give you for your success or accomplishments, then you have low self-esteem. While high self-esteem might not be something which our life depends on (like water and food). Self-esteem is important for our well-being and happiness, it gives us the mental power to achieve great things and be success...

Women Are Always Right

An observation that's increasingly struck me over the past few years is that people, men and women alike, tend to always find ways to rationalize and condone a woman's bad behaviors; the typical, go-to pretense to justify said behaviors, would be that whatever a woman is doing, she's doing because it's in her nature to do so : it's just the way women are. Here's what those rationalizations might look like: If she's being a rude, malignant cunt ; well, that's okay, because it's just the way women act out their insecurities. Don't take it personally. If she's throwing tamper tantrums like a 6-year-old kid : well, that's okay, because women are emotional creatures. Don't be so serious about it. In other words: a woman can never do, or say anything wrong. The reason she's acting a certain way is always justifiable and thus, dismissable as something benign . It's always being downplayed. What Does That Imply? ...

Reasons Why You Should Lift Heavy Weights

"Championships aren’t won in the theatre of the arena. They are won in the thousands of hours of training and the 5 AM runs in the rain when everyone else is sleeping. That’s where it’s won. The heart of a champion is a light switch that’s always on – it doesn’t go on and off when someone’s watching – it’s constant. It’s how you look at something if your name is attached to it – that you do it right – every single time" - Greg Plitt Body: "Lift.". If you have been here for a while you have probably heard this and there is a good reason why "Lift" is given out as advice for so many problems. If you are to learn one thing from this sub - make it be lifting. Why lift? Let's face it, you were, or still are, a loser. You are probably flabby all over. But that's ok brother. You are here to learn and improve, which is why we want you to lift. Lifting is the first step in reclaiming your masculinity. So what should you do? There is ...

Change Is Hard, Here's Why You Should Keep Trying

When you close your eyes and envision the ideal version of you, the "you" that you want to be, what is different? Is he...     More muscular?     Less fat?     Fashionable?     Important?     Rich?     A world traveler?     Popular with women?     Famous?     Whatever the hell you want out of life. It's your ideal. Maybe just a version of you where you're genuinely happy with your life, not angry and/or sad all the time? Is this ideal person socially awkward, or fluent? How attractive are the women in his life? Does this ideal version of you feel confident walking up to a strange woman and flirting with them? Does this ideal version of you operate from a state of abundance or a state of scarcity? I'm not here to judge your vision, I just want you to think deep for a minute on what you don't like about yourself, and what you're doing to change those thi...

Life Requires Passion. Life Requires Care. Life Requires Worry

There are two types of unsuccessful people in the world: those who don’t care about anything, and those who care about the wrong things. Let’s examine the former, first off, and do so bluntly: there is a goddamn plague of apathy currently infecting Western culture . Perhaps we are too full, too fat, too satiated: but the amount of people who just don’t care about anything is way too high. No, I don’t mean that “I don’t really care about global warming, police shootings, saving the orcas” kind of apathetic individual. That kind of apathy is natural, hell it is necessary for survival and happiness. Humans only have the capacity to care about things that are meaningful to them, as this is nature’s way of helping you to focus and keep your head in the game when it comes to your own success and survival as a creature. While there are some people who genuinely care about far away causes that don’t immediately affect their lives, the clear majority of people who claim to care...
